Description

Scag Cheetah II 72 Inch Zero-Turn with 40 HP Vanguard BIG BLOCK EFI

This is the most powerful side-discharge Cheetah II Scag builds, a fuel-injected 40 horsepower Vanguard BIG BLOCK behind the 72 inch Velocity Plus deck. It is also, at up to 1,427 lbs, among the heaviest.

Weight and Wet Ground

A machine this heavy leaves marks that a lighter one does not, and the marks appear first as tyre impressions on soft turf and then as compaction that shows up weeks later as a stripe of poorer growth. The practical answer is scheduling rather than equipment: keep the big machine off irrigated or recently rained-on turf where a 61 or a stand-on can do the job, and vary the direction of travel between visits so the same lines are not repeatedly loaded.

  • Cutting width: 72 inches, Velocity Plus cutter deck
  • Engine: Vanguard BIG BLOCK EFI, 40 HP
  • Weight: 1,399 to 1,427 lbs
  • Drive tires: 24 x 12-12
  • Ground speed: 12 mph low range, 16 mph high range
  • Fuel capacity: 13 gallons

Reading Turf After the First Season

Compaction is worth looking for rather than waiting to be told about. A screwdriver pushed into the ground along a regular wheel line and then into untrafficked turf beside it gives an honest comparison in seconds. Where the difference is obvious, the fix is aeration and a changed mowing pattern, and finding it in the autumn is considerably cheaper than being shown it in the spring by a customer.

The Safety Interlocks Are Not Optional

The operator presence system cuts the engine when the seat is vacated with the blades engaged, and it is the interlock most often bypassed because it interrupts an operator trying to work a slope standing up. On a machine of this weight and speed that is a serious thing to defeat. Testing the interlock every few weeks takes seconds and confirms it still works.

Choosing the Largest Cheetah

Take this where the ground is open, firm and heavy enough to need the power. The SCZII-72V-38FX-EFI and SCZII-72V-38CV-EFI sit just below on output, and the SCZII-72V-37BV-EFI is the value option at this width. The Blackout version of this exact machine is the SCZII-72V-40BV-EFI-SS.
