BCS Drip Tape Layer Kit for the Plastic Mulch Layer

Plastic mulch almost always needs drip irrigation underneath, because rain cannot reach the soil through the film. This kit mounts on the BCS plastic mulch layer and feeds a line of drip tape into the bed as the plastic goes down, so irrigation and mulch are laid in the same pass instead of two.

Centered in the Bed

The flange where the tractor connects to the mulch layer is offset from the layer’s frame. That offset lets the operator position the drip tape exactly in the center of the growing bed, where it waters the root zone of a single row or sits between two rows of transplants.

One Line or Two

Up to two drip tape layers can be mounted, but BCS cautions that the setup becomes quite heavy. Where a bed needs several lines of tape, BCS recommends laying them by hand before the mulch goes on, then running the mulch layer over them.

Emitters Facing Up

Thread the tape so the emitters face upward; facing down, they can pick up soil and clog. Leave a tail at each end of the bed for connecting to the header line, and test for flow before planting.
