BCS 28″ Two-Stage Snow Blower

BCS’s single-stage thrower handles most storms; the two-stage blower is designed for what BCS calls “the Monster” snowfalls, drifted snow that is feet deep. The 28 inch version brings that capability to the 739, the smallest BCS charted for it, and to every larger tractor, throwing snow up to 45 feet.

Auger First, Then Impeller

A 15 inch diameter auger cuts into the snowbank and feeds it to a separate impeller, which blasts it out of the chute. The housing is 3/8 inch steel plate and the gearbox is cast iron, both built for hard use. A 23 inch intake height lets the blower take a deep bank in one bite rather than shaving it down in layers.

Control From the Handlebars

The chute rotates through 200 degrees, and its control rod extends back and fastens to the tractor’s right handlebar, so the operator steers the throw without reaching forward. Shear bolts protect both the augers and the impeller if they meet a frozen newspaper or a buried stone. Three skid height settings range from 0 to 2 inches, and adjustable rollers can replace the skids for easier maneuvering.

28 Inch Two-Stage Data

  • Weight: 148 lbs
  • Throw: up to 45 feet
  • Intake height: 23″; auger diameter: 15″
  • Tractors: 739, 749, 779, 852, 853; 750 and 889 with the HD 3-bolt bushing
  • Not charted for: 710 through 732

Carrying Spare Shear Bolts

Shear bolts are designed to break, and they always do so at the worst moment. Keep a few spares and the right wrenches in a bag on the tractor, replace only with the specified grade so the protection still works, and shut the engine off before reaching into the housing. BCS sells a two-stage shear bolt kit for exactly this. Coverage is three years residential and one year commercial.

28 or 33 Inch, One or Two Stage

The 33 inch two-stage blower is wider and heavier and needs a 749 or larger tractor. The single-stage 28 inch thrower costs much less and fits the 722 and 732. Choose the two-stage machine where drifts and heavy, repeated snowfall are normal.
