BCS 21″ Brush Mower

BCS calls its brush mower the tool for people who want unmanicured ground to look like lawn, and the 21 inch version brings that to the smallest tractors. It fits the 710, 718, 722 and 732 on 5×10 wheels and mounts directly on the 739, 749, 852 and 853, cutting anything it can bend in places a four-wheel tractor cannot reach.

Narrow Enough for Trails

A 21 inch cut suits walking trails, the edges of ponds and streams, fence lines and the gaps between trees and outbuildings. It is light and easy to steer on a compact tractor, and it handles growth that would stall a lawn mower: tall grass, weeds and light brush, leaving a lawn-like finish at a 4 inch cutting height.

Swinging Blades and a Floating Deck

Two quarter-inch-thick blades pivot on their mounts, working like a scaled-down rotary cutter for a farm tractor. When one strikes a rock or a stump it folds back instead of transmitting the shock to the gearbox. The deck floats, tilting up to 15 degrees to follow ground contours, and rides on skids on each side.

Walking the Ground First

Overgrown ground hides things a mower should not meet: wire, metal posts, old tires and large stones. Walk the area before the first cut of the season, flag what cannot be moved, and mow the first pass slowly. The pivoting blades forgive the odd rock but not steel. Coverage is three years residential and one year commercial.

Brush Mower Widths

The 26 inch brush mower cuts wider on a 722 or larger and is the better choice for open meadows. The 32 inch is for the 749 and up. Because brush mower blades do not chop material finely, a flail mower is the better tool for cover crops.
