BCS Mowing Sulky

Description

BCS Mowing Sulky

The mowing sulky is a two-wheel frame with a seat that lets the operator ride behind a BCS tractor while it runs a front-mounted mower or power sweeper. BCS calls it the only way to ride any of its tractors while operating a front-mount attachment, and it turns long mowing days on large areas into sitting work.

Front-Mount Work Only

The sulky works with any front-mounted mowing attachment, from sickle bars to brush and flail mowers, and with the power sweeper. It is not for rear-mounted tools. BCS recommends it for its Professional Series tractors with differential drive, and recommends steering brakes, which are fitted to the 749, 750, 779, 852 and 853. On the 852, the front-mount transport gear lets the operator ride the sulky to a distant field.

On and Off Without Tools

The sulky frame connects by a pair of lynch pins to rods and flanges mounted on the tractor’s wheels. When the mowing reaches steep slopes or tight corners where riding is unwise, the frame comes off in the field with no tools and goes back on just as quickly. The sulky’s wheels are 30 inches apart.

Sulky Specifications

• Frame: two wheels with seat
• Wheelbase width: 30″
• Mounting: wheel flanges and lynch pins, tool-free
• Tractors: 722, 732, 739, 749, 750, 779, 852, 853, 889
• Not charted for: 710 or 718

Wide Turns Only

Like the utility trailer, the sulky restricts how tightly the tractor can turn, and BCS warns that sharp turns risk a jack-knife. Plan mowing in long runs with wide loops at the ends, slow down before turning, and step off on slopes rather than riding across them. Coverage is three years residential and one year commercial.

Matching a Tractor to the Sulky

The 852 pairs naturally with the sulky because of its front-mount transport gear. The hydrostatic 779 and 889 let the rider adjust ground speed with one lever. The 722 and 732 run the sulky too, without steering brakes.
