BCS Anti-Scalp Roller for the 24″ Flail Mower

Skids on a flail mower ride on two narrow strips, and on soft ground they sink, letting the flails dig in and scalp. This full-width roller replaces the skids on the 24 inch BladeRunner, spreading the mower’s weight across its whole width so the flails can be set as low as half an inch without striking the soil.

Low Cutting on Soft Ground

The roller is what lets a 24 inch flail mow cover crops close to the ground on loose, tilled beds, or keep a lawn short without gouging it. BCS sets the roller for a half inch cutting height. On a narrow mower used between beds, that low, even cut is often the reason for owning a flail at all.

Easier on Rough Ground

Because the roller sits closer to the tractor than skids or caster wheels, the mower is effectively shorter, and it crosses rough features such as V-ditches more easily.

Keeping the Roller Turning

Wet soil and grass can build up on a roller; scrape it clean after use and check the bearings spin freely. The 30 and 35 inch flails take their own rollers.
