BCS 26″ Brush Mower

The 26 inch brush mower is the middle width of BCS’s three and the one that fits the widest range of tractors, from the 722 to the 889. It is built to keep rough ground under control: slopes too steep for a four-wheel tractor, meadow paths, orchard edges and overgrown corners, mown to a tidy 4 inch height.

Where Four-Wheel Tractors Cannot Go

A walk-behind with its weight low between two wheels can work across slopes that would tip a riding mower, and the 26 inch cutter has the width to clear an open bank or meadow in reasonable time. BCS’s own example is mowing across steep slopes and along ponds and streams, where the operator stays uphill of the machine.

Built to Take Hits

The two blades are quarter-inch steel and swing on pivots, folding back when they strike rock or a stump. A rear rubber flap holds debris down as cut material leaves the deck, and the deck itself tilts up to 15 degrees to follow uneven ground. Inside, hardened steel gears run on ball bearings in a steel-reinforced aluminum gearbox case.

Mowing on a Slope

Mow across a slope rather than up and down it, offset the handlebars so you walk on the uphill side, and keep the differential locked only while traction needs it. On a hydrostatic 779, slowing the ground speed while the engine stays at full throttle gives the blades more cuts per foot when the growth turns woody. Coverage is three years residential and one year commercial.

Comparing Brush Mower Sizes

The 21 inch version is the one for the 710 and 718, and suits trails. The 32 inch clears faster on a 749 or larger tractor. For land that alternates between rough cutting and lawn mowing, consider the 30 inch HD combo mower instead.
