BCS 82″ Dual Action Sickle Bar Mower (No Fingers)

The 82 inch bar is the widest mower BCS sells, nearly seven feet of fingerless dual action knife. It is charted only for the heaviest tractors, the 749, 779, 852 and 853, plus the 750 and 889 with the HD 2-bolt bushing, and it is sold complete with its dual action oil-bath transmission.

Maximum Width per Pass

For large-scale mowing with a walk-behind, width is time. An 82 inch cut covers far more ground per pass than any other BCS mower, which suits big meadows, orchards, firebreaks and conservation land managed on a schedule. Without fingers, it takes woody regrowth and saplings in stride, and the heavier self-adjusting tensioners suit that work.

Why It Needs the Big Tractors

A bar this long puts considerable weight and leverage on the front of the tractor. The tractors it fits all have 22 inch tires, GX390 engines and individual steering brakes, which help hold a straight line and turn the wide bar at the end of each run. The opposing knives keep vibration low despite the length.

Turning a Long Bar

Plan mowing in long straight runs, lift the bar slightly at the end and turn wide, using the inside steering brake. Leave a headland strip around the field and mow it last so the tractor always turns on cut ground. A mowing sulky makes long runs on large areas far less tiring. Coverage is three years residential and one year commercial.

When a Narrower Bar Is Better

The 67 inch fingerless bar also fits the 739 and is easier in tight or broken ground. The 71 inch finger bar is the wide choice for clean grass and hay. The 82 inch pays off on open land worked regularly.
