BCS 30″ Sickle Bar Mower, Complete With Transmission

The sickle bar, or cutter bar, is where BCS began, and it is still one of the company’s most popular attachments. The 30 inch mower is the narrowest version and is sold complete: the bar plus its own oil-bath transmission, priced together and ready to mount. It fits every BCS tractor, from the 710 up, and suits orchard rows, fence lines and garden margins where a wider bar would be awkward.

A Clean Cut With Nothing Thrown

A sickle bar slices plants at the base with a reciprocating knife and leaves them lying intact. Nothing is chopped, so there is no flying debris and no thrown stones, which makes it safe beside buildings, vehicles and people. It cuts tall grass, weeds and saplings up to 1.5 inches thick, and because it needs very little power it runs happily on the smallest BCS engines.

The Right Transmission for the Tractor

Every sickle bar mower has its own oil-bath transmission, which gives smoother running, long life and less maintenance, and adds weight that helps the tractor climb steep slopes. For the 30 and 40 inch bars, BCS fits a short transmission on the 710 and 718 and a long one on the 722 and larger tractors, so tell the shop which tractor it is going on.

30 Inch Mower Fitment

  • Sold as: bar plus oil-bath transmission
  • 710, 718, 722, 732, 739: mounts directly
  • 749, 779, 852, 853: quick hitch or PTO extension for balance
  • 750, 889: quick hitch or PTO extension, plus the HD 2-bolt bushing
  • Included: complete replacement knife assembly; skids to 3″ cut height

Mowing Under Low Branches

The bar runs low and extends well beyond the tractor’s wheels, so it reaches under fences, low tree limbs and shrubs where a deck mower cannot go. Approach slowly, keep the knife running at full speed before it meets the growth, and back out rather than lifting the bar into branches. Coverage is three years residential and one year commercial.

Sizing a Sickle Bar

The 40 inch bar also fits the 710 and 718 and covers more ground per pass. The 45 and 53 inch bars need a 722 or 732 and up. Choose the 30 inch where access is tight or the tractor is light.
