Description

BCS 30″ Precision Depth Roller (Tiller Not Included)

Fitted behind a 30 inch BCS tiller, this roller gives the grower depth control that a tiller alone cannot match, and turns the tiller into a seedbed finishing tool on the same pass that it chops residue. It is supplied without the tiller and weighs only 38 lbs, built from 3/16 inch steel with lightening holes cut to keep it light.

Burying Cover Crop Seed

BCS highlights the PDR for sowing cover crops: broadcast the seed, then run the tiller shallow with the roller behind it, and the seed is mixed into the top inch or so and firmed in one operation. At the end of the season the roller lifts to its highest setting so the tines can work deeper and power compost the grown cover crop back into the soil.

Protecting Soil Structure

Repeated deep tilling at one depth can form a compacted layer just below the tines. Because the PDR lets each pass be set to the depth the job needs, from half an inch for cultivation to 7 inches for primary work, it helps avoid that hardpan and preserves soil structure. The roller also leaves the bed level and lightly consolidated, ready for a seeder.

30 Inch PDR Details

  • For: BCS 30″ rear-tine tiller (not included)
  • Weight: 38 lbs without the tiller
  • Depth control: lever with 17 positions in 0.5″ increments
  • 739, 749, 779, 852, 853: quick hitch or PTO extension required
  • Model 750 and 889: HD 2-bolt bushing required

Installing It the First Time

Mounting the PDR onto the tiller is straightforward, and BCS publishes a step-by-step attachment set-up video for it. Do the job on a flat floor with the tiller detached, tighten all fasteners, then run the lever through every setting before taking it to the field. Coverage is three years residential and one year commercial.

Matching Roller to Tiller

The 26 inch PDR is the only choice for 722 and 732 owners, whose tractors cannot run the 30 inch tiller. The 30 inch roller suits the wider beds of a 739 or larger tractor, and is the one to buy for a 779.
