Expect a Fortnight of Learning

Lap-bar steering is unintuitive coming from a steering wheel, and the first few cuts will show it in scuffed turf where a wheel spun during a turn. Keeping both bars moving through the turn, and slowing before rather than during, fixes it. Practising on the least visible part of the lawn for the first session is a sensible use of half an hour.

Clear the Lawn Before the First Pass

Fallen branches, hose fittings and forgotten garden tools all cost blades, and a stone thrown from a 42 inch deck travels a long way. Two minutes with a bucket before starting is the cheapest maintenance available on any mower and the one most often skipped.
