The EM6500SX is the top of Honda’s EM home generator line, with 5,500 watts continuous and 6,500 at peak. That margin is aimed at houses where an outage means more than a refrigerator: a chest freezer, a furnace, a sump or well pump and the lights, all at once. Electric start, a standard wheel kit, Bluetooth remote operation and CO-MINDER shutdown are all included.

More Capacity, Same Footprint

This is the same frame and 389 cc iGX390 engine as the EM5000SX, at 41.4 x 27.8 x 28.3 inches and 231.7 lb. The extra 1,000 rated watts are what separate the two, and they matter on a long outage when appliances cycle on together. iAVR technology still allows 7,000 watts for up to ten seconds for motor starts, though on this model the surge window sits only slightly above the normal 6,500 watt ceiling.

Overnight Running

At half load the 6.2 gallon tank lasts about 9.8 hours, enough to run through the night and refuel in daylight. At full rated load expect 6.4 hours. The My Generator app’s operation monitoring helps judge how hard the house is working the machine, which in turn tells you when the tank will need attention.

Connecting to the House Safely
