Description

BCS Power Ridger (Ridge 2) Front-Mount Attachment

The power ridger, also called the “Ridge 2,” works ahead of the tractor rather than behind it. Driven by the PTO in front-mount mode, it cuts a 22 inch strip and throws the loosened soil up into ridges on either side, leaving an open trench in the middle. That makes it a fast tool for hilling potatoes, opening trenches for bulbs and tubers, and clearing weeds from ridges in inter-row crops.

Working Previously Tilled Ground

BCS does not recommend the power ridger for primary tillage; it is meant for soil that has already been worked. Between raised beds it re-cuts footpaths and throws the loose soil back onto the beds, and in row crops it cultivates and hills in one pass, improving soil permeability along the ridge. Like most PTO-driven BCS attachments it has its own gearbox, with steel gears and shafts running in an oil bath.

Adjustable Wings

Two wings shape where the soil goes. A spring-loaded pin on each sets the wing angle in four positions, and two hand screws extend each wing up to 5 inches. At the lowest, ground-level setting the wingspan runs from 30 inches closed to 39 inches fully extended. A front wheel acts as both depth gauge and transport wheel.

Power Ridger Specifications

  • Working width: 22″
  • Wingspan: 30″ to 39″, four angle settings
  • Weight: 132 lbs
  • Drive: oil-bath gearbox, front mount
  • Tractors: 722, 732, 739, 749, 779, 852, 853; 750 and 889 with the HD 2-bolt bushing

Easy to Lift at the Row End

At 132 lbs, the ridger is about 60 lbs lighter than the 30 inch flail mower and sits balanced against the tractor’s engine, so it lifts off the ground easily when turning into the next row. Set the depth wheel before starting the row and resist pushing down on the bars; the wheel does the work. Coverage runs three years residential and one year commercial.

Ridger Choices

The hiller/furrower behind a tiller is the economical way to hill a few rows. The drag ridger on a Tool Carrier Kit is unpowered and fits even the 710 and 718. The power ridger is the PTO-driven option for larger plantings on a 722 or bigger tractor.
