Description

BCS 853 Electric Start Two-Wheel Tractor, Honda GX390

The 853 and the 749 are the two tractors BCS itself compares for professional market farmers, and the electric-start 853 is the right side of that comparison for a grower who moves tools and produce around the farm as much as they till. It has key starting with recoil backup, a Honda GX390, and a rear-direction transport gear of 9.2 mph for the utility trailer.

853 or 749 for a Market Farm

Both tractors run the same engine on 22 inch tires and share one column of BCS’s application chart, so the implement list is identical. The difference is in the drivetrain. The 853 has a spring-loaded double cone clutch and four gears, the last a transport speed. The 749 has three working gears and no transport speed, but uses the patented PowerSafe wet clutch, which stays cooler through long flail mower or chipper sessions and carries five years of residential coverage. The 853 costs less.

Bed Work and Harvest Hauling

Typical market-farm tools for the 853 include the 26 and 30 inch tillers, the power harrows, the plastic mulch layer with 22 inch wheel extensions, the bed shaper on a Tool Carrier Kit and the power potato digger and planter. At harvest, the utility trailer turns the tractor into a field cart that keeps pace on the farm lane.

853 Electric Specs

  • Gears: three working (0.9, 2.0, 3.0 mph) plus 9.2 mph transport
  • Transport direction: rear-mount
  • Clutch: double cone
  • Drive: differential with lockout and individual wheel brakes
  • Standard tires: 5x12x22″
  • Weight: 342 lbs with a 30″ tiller

Washing Down Without Damaging Seals

Market-farm tractors get muddy, and a hose is the obvious cure. Rinse the tractor with low pressure, keep water away from the engine air intake and the electric start wiring, and never aim a pressure washer at axle or PTO seals, which can force water past them into the gear oil. Coverage is lifetime transmission for residential owners and five years commercially, plus three years residential or one year commercial on the tractor; Honda covers the engine.

Other Ways to Configure It

The recoil 853 is the same machine for less money. The 852 moves the transport gear to front-mount use for riding the mowing sulky. Hydrostatic speed control is available on the 779 PS and 889 StarGate.
