BCS 732 Electric Start Two-Wheel Tractor, Kohler CH395

This is the key-start version of the 732, BCS’s most economical differential-drive tractor. The Kohler Command Pro CH395 starts with a turn of a key, and a recoil starter stays fitted as a backup. For an owner who stops the engine often during a session, or for anyone who finds pulling a cord a chore, it removes the least pleasant part of running a 300-pound tractor.

Key Start on a Working Tractor

Electric start earns its keep on jobs that are interrupted: clearing snow from several paths, moving a trailer between beds, mowing round obstacles where the engine is shut off to clear the deck. It also makes the 732 easier to share with family members who would struggle with a large engine’s compression. The battery-free fallback is the recoil handle, so a flat battery never strands the machine.

Differential Drive in Practice

Independent wheels let the tractor turn on the spot, which BCS points to as a strong reason to choose the 732 for mowing with the 26 inch brush mower or 24 inch flail mower (both with the 5×10 wheel upgrade). The differential lock engages with one lever when traction to both wheels is needed, and releases with the same lever. Mounted directly, the 732 runs the 20 and 26 inch tillers, the 40 inch power sweeper, the dethatcher and the 45 and 53 inch sickle bar mowers.

Looking After the Starting Battery

A small starting battery loses charge quickly when a tractor sits for weeks between seasons. Run the 732 for a while every few weeks in the off season or keep the battery on a maintainer, and check the terminals for corrosion before the first spring start. Warranty runs three years residential and one year commercial, with the gearbox covered for life at home and five years in commercial service; Kohler warrants the engine.

Recoil 732 or a Step Up

The recoil 732 is mechanically identical and costs less; pick it if the engine is started once and run for hours. Moving up to the 739 PS adds a Honda GX340, a third working speed of 2.7 mph and the wet PowerSafe clutch, along with a 30 inch tiller and the pressure washer, neither of which the 732 is charted for.
