BCS 28″ Single-Stage Snow Thrower

For owners of a 722 or larger BCS, the 28 inch snow thrower is the everyday winter attachment: wide enough to clear a two-car drive in reasonable time, light enough to handle easily, and driven entirely by gears. BCS says it throws snow up to 40 feet, and in its view it outperforms many two-stage walk-behind machines despite being single stage.

Gear Drive and a 1,200 RPM Impeller

The thrower runs from the tractor’s PTO through an oil-bath gearbox of heat-treated steel gears supported on ball bearings. That drive spins the single-stage rotor at over 1,200 rpm, fast enough that wet, slushy snow is launched out of the chute instead of clogging it. The stainless-steel discharge chute does not hold snow or rust.

Aiming the Throw

The chute direction changes from the operator’s position with a handle, so snow can be thrown downwind or away from a building on each pass without stopping. Adjustable skids give six height settings between ground level and nearly 2 inches; set them low on paved surfaces and higher on gravel to avoid picking up and throwing stones.

Before the First Snowfall

Fit and test the thrower in autumn rather than on the morning of the first storm. Check the gearbox oil, confirm the chute handle turns freely, and stake the edges of gravel drives and lawns so the skid height can be judged when everything is white. BCS sells a 28 inch snow thrower weight kit for extra traction. Coverage is three years residential and one year commercial.

Comparing BCS Snow Tools

The 24 inch thrower is the version for the 710 and 718. The 28 inch two-stage blower, for the 739 and up, handles deep drifts and throws further. The 40 inch snow blade pushes light snow quickly off wide, flat areas.
