Description

Scag TL20W Tow-Behind Debris Loader with 26 HP Kohler EFI

The fuel-injected version of Scag’s tow-behind loader, running a 26 horsepower Kohler EFI. It costs more than the 33 horsepower Vanguard machine while offering less power.

Why Injection Is Worth Paying For on a Loader

A debris loader spends its working life at full throttle, which is the condition where fuel injection delivers the clearest saving over a carburetor. It also starts reliably on cold autumn mornings, which matters on a machine used almost exclusively between October and December and stored the rest of the year. Those two things are what the price difference buys rather than performance.

  • Engine: Kohler EFI, 26 HP
  • Chassis: tow-behind on road wheels
  • Type: debris and leaf loader
  • Rated for commercial use

Seasonal Machines and Stale Fuel

Equipment used for ten weeks and stored for forty-two fails from standing rather than from work, and fuel is the usual culprit. Fuel injection removes the carburetor bowl that varnishes over a long layup, which on a strictly seasonal machine is worth more than it would be on something running year-round.

Store It Dry and Empty the Hose

Wet leaf residue left inside a hose and housing over winter rots, smells and corrodes. Running the machine for a minute on clean air at the end of the last job clears most of it, and hanging the hose rather than coiling it on the floor lets the rest dry out.

Grease Before Storage, Not After

Fresh grease displaces the moisture that would otherwise sit in a bearing all winter.

Comparing the Tow-Behind Loaders

The TL20W-33BV offers more power for less money with a carbureted Vanguard, and is the better buy unless the injection case above applies to your operation. The skid-mounted TLS20 machines suit crews with a dedicated truck.
