Description
Scag Tiger Cat II 52 Inch Zero-Turn with 25 HP Kohler Command PRO EFI
The Kohler-powered 52 inch Tiger Cat II runs a fuel-injected Command PRO at 25 horsepower and sits at the value end of this deck width. It shares its price with the carbureted 29 horsepower machine, which makes the comparison between them unusually direct.
Injection or Displacement for the Same Money
At this width Scag offers a choice most ranges do not: fuel injection at 25 horsepower, or a carburetor at 29, for the same outlay. Neither is the obvious answer. Crews with high annual hours and varied terrain gain more from injection, while those cutting heavy material on flat ground at moderate hours will feel the four extra horsepower more often than they will notice the fuel saving.
- Cutting width: 52 inches, Velocity Plus cutter deck
- Engine: Kohler Command PRO EFI, 25 HP
- Cutting height: 1 to 5 inches in quarter-inch increments
- Fuel capacity: 9.5 gallons
- Drive: dual Hydro-Gear 12 cc pumps, Parker 14.5 ci motors
- Width with chute down: 64.5 inches
A Smaller Tank Than the Machines Above It
The Tiger Cat carries 9.5 gallons where a Cheetah carries 13, which is appropriate to the class but changes the route planning. A crew moving up from a walk-behind will find the range generous and one moving down from a full-size rider will find it short. Working out how many properties a tank actually covers, rather than assuming, prevents the mid-site stop that costs more than the fuel.
Write the Fault Down When It Happens
Intermittent faults are diagnosed from description rather than from inspection, and by the time a machine reaches a workshop the operator has usually forgotten whether it was hot or cold, turning or straight. A note on a phone at the moment it happens turns a vague complaint into something a technician can actually chase.
The Same Price, Two Answers
The STCII-52V-29CV is the carbureted 29 horsepower alternative at this price. Above both, the STCII-52V-26FT-EFI is the Kawasaki injected option and the STCII-52V-34CV-EFI steps up to 34 horsepower on the same Kohler family.
