Scag SWZT 48 Inch Hydro-Drive Walk-Behind Mower with Electric Start

The 48 inch SWZT with a 15 horsepower Kawasaki FS and electric start, on the floating Hero cutter deck and dual ZT-2800 transaxles.

Electric Start Is Not a Luxury on a Walk-Behind

Recoil starting a commercial engine twenty times across a working day is genuinely tiring, and it is the thing operators complain about first on a machine that is otherwise fine. Every SWZT above 36 inches carries electric start for that reason. On a machine bought to do a full day rather than a couple of hours, it pays for itself in willingness to use it.

  • Cutting width: 48 inches, Hero cutter deck, floating mount
  • Engine: Kawasaki FS Series, 15 HP, electric start
  • Drive: dual Hydro-Gear ZT-2800 transaxles, 10 cc pumps, 16 cc motors
  • Forward speed: up to 7 mph
  • Fuel capacity: 5.5 gallons
  • Drive tires: 18 x 8.5-8

Keep the Battery Charged Through Winter

The battery that makes electric start worthwhile is also the part most likely to fail after a layup, and on a machine used seasonally that means the convenience disappears exactly when the season starts. Disconnecting the negative lead or fitting a maintenance charger over winter is the difference between a machine that starts in March and one that gets recoil started while somebody finds a battery.

Floating Decks Need Their Hangers Checked

A deck that follows the ground does so on hangers and linkages that move constantly, and wear there shows up as a deck sitting out of level rather than as an obvious fault. Checking the hanger points annually keeps the advantage the floating mount was bought for.

Level It After Any Hanger Work

Adjusting one hanger changes the relationship of the whole deck, so a full level check should follow.

The SWZT Range

The SWZT-36H-14FS is the recoil-start entry machine. The SWZT-52H-18FSE and SWZT-61H-22FSE step up in width and power, and the SWZT52H-20CXI is a Briggs-powered alternative at 52 inches.
