Description

Scag SFC 30 Inch California Compliant Finish-Cut Mower with Swivel Wheels

The 30 inch SFC with swivel front wheels and a 7 horsepower Kohler Command, certified for California and priced level with the standard machine.

No Premium for Compliance Here

This machine and its federal equivalent carry the same price, which makes the certification a straightforward requirement rather than a cost decision. Californian buyers get the same mower for the same money, and there is nothing to weigh up beyond confirming the machine ordered is the compliant one rather than assuming.

  • Cutting width: 30 inches
  • Engine: Kohler Command, 7 HP, California certified
  • Front wheels: swivel, lockable
  • Type: commercial finish-cut walk-behind

Lock the Casters for Straight Work

Swivel wheels are excellent around beds and poor on a long straight run, where they wander and the operator ends up correcting continuously. Locking them for open passes and releasing them for detail work is how the feature is meant to be used, and crews that never touch the lock get half the benefit and blame the machine for tracking badly.

Swivel Wheels Need Their Bearings Looked At

A caster that swivels does so on a bearing that collects grit and water from the ground it runs over, and a stiff one stops swivelling long before it seizes. Spinning each wheel by hand occasionally, and keeping the pivots clean, preserves the feature that separates this machine from a fixed-wheel mower.

Stiffness Shows Up as Wandering

A caster that will not turn freely pushes the machine off line rather than following it, which gets blamed on the operator.

Grease Is Not Always the Answer

Some caster pivots are sealed and adding grease to them simply packs dirt against the seal. Checking whether a machine has a grease point before reaching for the gun avoids creating the problem you meant to prevent.

The Compliant 30 Inch Machines

The SFCII-30-7CV-S-CA is the second-generation compliant machine at the same price. Outside California the SFC-30-7CV-S is the identical mower without the certification.
