Description
Scag Liberty Z 61 Inch Zero-Turn with 26 HP Kohler 7000 Series
The Kohler-powered 61 inch Liberty Z carries a 26 horsepower 7000 Series PRO, which is more output than the Kawasaki version at a lower price. On the widest deck in the range that combination makes it the sensible default.
Power Matters More as the Deck Grows
A wide deck asks more of an engine simply because more grass passes under it per second. On a 36 inch machine the difference between 18 and 20 horsepower is academic for a domestic lawn. At 61 inches, two horsepower is the margin between holding blade speed through a thick patch and hearing the engine drop. This is the width where the number on the sticker starts to describe something real.
- Cutting width: 61 inches, Hero cutter deck
- Engine: Kohler 7000 Series PRO, 26 HP
- Transaxles: dual hydrostatic
- Forward speed: up to 7 mph
- Deck spindles: aluminium housings, sealed ball bearings
- Blade engagement: Ogura GT1 clutch
Change Direction Between Cuts
Mowing the same pattern every week presses the grass in one direction and puts the wheels along the same lines, which over a season produces faint ruts and a lawn that leans. Rotating between a north-south pass, an east-west and a diagonal takes no extra time and keeps both problems away. It also produces better stripes, because the grass has not learned to lie one way.
Where a Wide Machine Cannot Reach
A 61 inch deck leaves more behind than a narrow one, because everything it cannot fit between still has to be cut. Owners stepping up this far often find they have traded mowing time for trimming time. Planning where the machine genuinely cannot go, and keeping a walk-behind or a strimmer for those areas, is part of making the width pay.
Reading the 61 Inch Options
This is the value choice at the top of the range. The SZL-61H-27SR adds a horsepower with a Scag SR engine for slightly more, and the SZL-61H-24FR is the Kawasaki at the highest price and the lowest output of the three. Below this width the 52 inch machines cover most domestic ground.
