Description

Scag Liberty Z 48 Inch Zero-Turn with 22 HP Kohler 7000 Series

Forty-eight inches is the most popular width in the homeowner zero-turn market, and this is the Kohler-powered Liberty Z at that size. It carries the same 22 horsepower 7000 Series PRO as the 42 inch machine at the same price, which makes it straightforwardly better value if access allows.

A Different Transaxle at This Width

The 48 inch Liberty Z uses Tuff Torq transaxles where the 36, 42, 52 and 61 inch machines run Hydro-Gear units. Both are proven, both are sealed, and in ordinary use an owner will not notice which is fitted. It is worth knowing only because it means a service part or a question about the drive on a 48 is not necessarily answered by information about its siblings.

  • Cutting width: 48 inches, Hero cutter deck
  • Engine: Kohler 7000 Series PRO, 22 HP
  • Transaxles: Tuff Torq, dual hydrostatic
  • Forward speed: up to 7 mph
  • Seat: contoured high-back with armrests standard at this width
  • Deck lift: spring-assisted foot pedal

Armrests Become Standard Here

The 48, 52 and 61 inch Liberty Z machines carry armrests as standard where the 36 and 42 offer them as an optional kit. On a machine steered by lap bars the armrest is not decoration, because the operator’s forearms rest on it and do much of the fine control. Buyers stepping up from a narrower model usually notice this before they notice the extra deck width.

Choosing a 48 Inch Liberty Z

This is the value configuration. The SZL-48H-21FR is the Kawasaki alternative at a small premium and the SZL-48H-24SR carries a Scag SR engine at the lowest price of the three. If your lawn is large enough to justify it, the 52 inch machines cut a further four inches per pass.
