Why the Yanmar Costs More

Output is effectively identical across the three engines, so the premium is not buying power. Yanmar has a long-standing position in compact diesel plant and a service network built around it, and for buyers who already run Yanmar-powered equipment the commonality is worth paying for. For a buyer with no existing preference, it is difficult to justify from the specification alone.

Hydraulic Fluid Is Specified, Not Generic

The Jackal runs a named fluid through a 10 micron filter, and the specification matters more on a machine whose attachments all draw from the same circuit. Topping up with whatever is on the shelf introduces additives that may not agree with what is already in there, and contamination on a 10 micron system shows up as attachment performance falling off rather than as an obvious fault.

Store It With the Arms Down

Loader arms left raised hold the hydraulic circuit under pressure and put the weight of the arms on the cylinders for however long the machine stands. Lowering them fully before shutting down releases that and leaves nothing to drift or drop unexpectedly when somebody next walks past.

Choosing Among the Narrow Jackals
