Description

Scag Cheetah II 61 Inch Blackout Edition, Kohler Command PRO EFI

This is the Kohler-powered 61 inch Cheetah II in Blackout finish, carrying the fuel-injected Command PRO at 38 horsepower under darkened paint and trim. Mechanically it matches the standard machine in every respect.

Telling Machines Apart on a Yard

Fleets that run several identical mowers spend a surprising amount of time working out which unit is which. Hour meters differ, service intervals fall due at different times, and the machine that developed a fault last week is indistinguishable from the three beside it. A visually distinct unit in an otherwise uniform fleet solves that without stickers or paint pens, and it survives a pressure washer.

  • Cutting width: 61 inches, Velocity Plus cutter deck
  • Engine: Kohler Command PRO EFI, 38 HP
  • Finish: Blackout paint and trim
  • Transaxle: two-speed ZT-5400
  • Cutting height: 1.25 to 5 inches in quarter-inch increments
  • Caster tires: 13 x 6.5-6

Keeping the Paint Worth Having

Darker finishes show swirl marks and scratches that lighter ones hide, so the washing routine matters more than it would on a gold machine. Rinsing grit off before any cloth touches the panels, and washing from the top down so debris runs away rather than across, keeps a Blackout looking like one after two seasons rather than one. Deck underside scraping is unchanged either way.

Folding the ROPS, and When Not To

The roll bar folds from 67 inches down to 49.5, which is what gets the machine under a low branch or into a container. It is meant to be folded for clearance and raised again immediately afterwards, not left down because raising it is a nuisance. A folded ROPS protects nobody, and the seat belt should stay unfastened while it is down, since a belt without a roll bar holds the operator in the worst possible place.

Choosing Between the Two Blackout 61s

This Kohler version and the Kawasaki SCZII-61V-38FX-EFI-SS are the two Blackout options at 61 inches, separated by engine brand and a small price difference rather than capability. In standard finish the same machine is the SCZII-61V-38CV-EFI. If the Blackout treatment appeals but you need more deck, it also appears on the 72 inch Cheetahs.
