BCS Water Transfer Pump

The water transfer pump is the BCS attachment for moving lots of water at low pressure: filling ponds and pools, pumping out flooded ground or basements, and flood or sprinkler watering of lawns and gardens. It moves up to 147 gallons per minute at a maximum of 50 psi and fits every BCS tractor from the 710 up, with the required Power Cradle.

A Self-Priming Centrifugal Pump

The pump is a Hypro centrifugal unit made by Pentair, with an aluminum casting and 2 inch inlet and outlet. It is self-priming: only the pump chamber needs filling with water before starting, and the pump then uses air and water together to reach full prime. The Power Cradle raises the PTO speed to suit the pump.

Head and Suction Lift

Two figures decide whether a pump can do a job. Maximum suction lift, the vertical distance from the water to the pump, is 28 feet, which matters when draining a basement or a deep pond. Maximum head, the total height from the water source to the discharge point, is 115 feet. For drip irrigation, BCS recommends adding a 120-micron filter, a regulator and a pressure relief valve.

Transfer Pump Specifications

  • Flow: up to 147 gpm; pressure up to 50 psi
  • Hoses: 25 ft suction and 50 ft discharge, aluminum camlocks
  • Included: foot valve and strainer, steel strainer, extra camlock fitting
  • Required: Power Cradle on every tractor; HD 2-bolt bushing on the 750 and 889
  • Mobility: caster wheel

Pumping From a Creek or Pond

Suspend the foot valve in clear water, not on the bottom, by tying it to a float or a stake, so it draws water rather than silt and leaves. Keep the suction hose as short and as low as practical; every foot of lift reduces flow. Flush the pump with clean water after pumping muddy floodwater. Coverage is three years residential and one year commercial.

Transfer or High-Pressure

The high-pressure irrigation pump reaches 85 psi and does not need the Power Cradle, so it is the better choice for sprinklers far from the source. The transfer pump is the value choice for volume work and for owners of the smallest tractors.
