BCS 47″ Dual Action Sickle Bar Mower with Fingers

The 47 inch dual action bar with fingers is the entry point to BCS’s dual action mowers and the only one with fingers that fits the 722 and 732. Two knives move in equal and opposite directions, which cancels much of the shaking of a single knife, cuts faster and makes long mowing sessions easier on the operator. It is sold complete with its dual action oil-bath transmission.

The Former Duplex Bar

The finger version was long known as the “duplex” bar and has been sold for many years. Fingers guide grass into the knives, which suits clean, grassy ground. BCS says that compared with the standard sickle bar it reduces vibration and lets the operator mow large grassy areas at higher speed, which is why it is a favorite for hay.

Low Maintenance Tensioners

Instead of the fixed clamps used on single action bars, dual action bars hold the knives down with spring-loaded moving arms. They keep steady pressure between knives and ledger plates as parts wear, so the owner does not have to keep adjusting clamps and risk over-tightening them. Riveted guards on the lower teeth stop cut material clogging the bar.

Hay Cutting Pace

A dual action bar rewards a steady, brisk pace in grass, which is where it outperforms a single knife. Cut hay in the morning once the dew lifts, keep the PTO at full speed, and let the tractor’s gears set travel speed. Stop and clear the fingers if a wad of wet grass builds up. Coverage is three years residential and one year commercial.

Fingers or No Fingers

The 51 inch dual action bar without fingers also fits the 722 and handles saplings and woody growth, where fingers can break. The 59 and 71 inch finger bars cut wider on a 739 or larger tractor.
