Description

Scag Turf Tiger II 72 Inch Zero-Turn with 40 HP Vanguard BIG BLOCK EFI

At 72 inches the Turf Tiger II is built for properties measured in acres rather than lots. The deck is driven by a driveshaft rather than a long belt, which removes the single most common wear item on a wide-deck mower and allows a taller cutting range than a belt layout can carry.

Driveshaft Drive and Deck Construction

Power reaches the spindles through a shaft, so there is no long belt to stretch, slip in wet grass, or need replacing mid-season. The Velocity Plus deck is a tri-plate weldment of roughly half an inch of steel with reinforcement at the spindles, and the cutting range runs from 1.5 all the way to 6 inches in quarter-inch steps, which covers both maintained turf and seasonal knockdown on rough ground.

  • Cutting width: 72 inches, Velocity Plus deck
  • Engine: Briggs Vanguard BIG BLOCK EFI, 40 HP
  • Cutting height: 1.5 to 6 inches in quarter-inch increments
  • Fuel capacity: 12 gallons
  • Drive: Hydro-Gear 16 cc pumps, Parker 18 ci motors
  • Ground speed: 12 mph forward, 6 mph reverse
  • Drive tires: 26 x 12-12

Stability Under a Wide Deck

The double-tube steel frame gives the machine a wide stance and a low centre of gravity, which is what keeps a 72 inch deck predictable on the side slopes and ditch banks that come with large-acreage work. Braking is by AUSCO discs on a foot-operated pedal rather than a lever, so the operator keeps both hands on the steering controls when stopping on a grade. The 26 inch drive tires climb curbs without the jolt smaller tires transmit.

Is 72 Inches the Right Deck for Your Sites

Deck width only pays where the ground is open enough to use it. On a site broken up by trees, beds and play equipment, a 72 inch machine spends its time turning rather than cutting and a 61 inch deck finishes sooner. Measure the longest uninterrupted run on your largest property before deciding. If the answer is short, the STTII-61V-40BV-EFI is the same machine and engine on a narrower deck. If you want the same 72 inch deck with less fuel burn and a liquid-cooled engine, the STTII-72V-31DFI runs a Kawasaki DFI, and the STTII-72V-38CH-EFI is the Kohler alternative at a lower price.
