Scag Freedom Z 48″ Briggs & Stratton 25HP

Description

Scag Freedom Z 48 Inch Zero-Turn with 25 HP Briggs CXi

At its price this is the least expensive commercially rated zero-turn Scag builds. The Freedom Z is the entry point to the commercial range, and this 48 inch machine with a 25 horsepower Briggs CXi is where that range starts.

What a Commercial Rating Actually Means

The line between a homeowner machine and a commercial one is not marketing. It shows up in the warranty, which on most domestic mowers is void the moment the machine earns money, and in the components chosen for a duty cycle measured in hundreds of hours a year rather than dozens. A contractor running a residential mower is uninsured against its failure in every sense that matters.

• Cutting width: 48 inches
• Engine: Briggs CXi Series, 25 HP
• Rated for commercial use
• Drive: dual hydrostatic transaxles
• Deck: fabricated steel

Check the Warranty Terms Against Your Use

Commercial warranties are usually shorter in years and longer in hours than domestic ones, which suits a machine doing four hundred hours a season and penalises one doing forty. Reading which applies before buying, rather than after a failure, is the difference between a claim and a conversation. It is also the clearest evidence of what a manufacturer expects a machine to do.

Keep the Purchase Invoice Where You Can Find It

Commercial warranty claims turn on proof of purchase date and on servicing having been done, and both are usually reconstructed badly a year later. A folder with the invoice and every service receipt takes no effort to start and is worth real money the one time it is needed.

Record Hours at Each Service

Written against dates alone, a service history proves very little on a machine warranted by hours.

The Freedom Z Range

The SFZ-48H-24KT and SFZ-48H-24SR carry Kohler and Scag SR engines at this width for more money. The 52 inch machines cover more ground, and above the Freedom Z the Patriot adds a roll bar, larger tyres and a suspension seat.
