Description

Scag V-Ride II 61 Inch Stand-On Mower with 26 HP Kohler Command PRO EFI

This pairs the full 61 inch Velocity Plus deck with the smallest engine Scag offers behind it, a fuel-injected 26 horsepower Kohler Command PRO. It is the least expensive route to the widest V-Ride II deck, and the trade it asks you to make is a real one worth understanding.

Cut Frequency Against Engine Size

How much power a deck needs is decided less by its width than by how much material passes through it per minute. A crew mowing the same property every seven days removes a third of the growth that a fortnightly crew does, and the difference in load on the engine is larger than the difference in grass height suggests. On a tight weekly schedule this engine carries a 61 inch deck without complaint. On a fortnightly one it will not, and the operator will be slowing down to compensate.

  • Cutting width: 61 inches, Velocity Plus cutter deck
  • Engine: Kohler Command PRO EFI, 26 HP
  • Fuel capacity: 8 gallons
  • Caster tires: 13 x 6.5-6
  • Cutting height: 1.5 to 4.5 inches in quarter-inch increments
  • Length: 72.75 inches

Larger Casters Than the Narrower Models

The 61 inch machines move up to 13 x 6.5-6 casters where the 48 and 52 inch models run 13 x 5-6. The wider tire floats better on soft ground and is markedly less prone to leaving a scuff mark when the machine pivots on wet turf, which is one of the more common sources of a complaint call. It is a small specification difference that shows up in finished quality on irrigated sites.

Whether to Buy Deck Width or Horsepower

If your budget forces a choice, this machine says take the width. That is the right answer for frequent maintenance rounds on open, kept turf. It is the wrong answer for overgrowth and first cuts, where the SVRII-61V-38CV-EFI or SVRII-61V-38FX-EFI will hold ground speed that this one cannot. A third option is to keep the power and drop to the 52 inch SVRII-52V-26FT-EFI.
