Description
Scag Turf Tiger II 52 Inch Propane Zero-Turn with 25 HP Kohler EFI
This is the propane-powered 52 inch Turf Tiger II, running a fuel-injected 25 horsepower Kohler on LP rather than petrol. It carries a 33.5 lb cylinder in place of the 12 gallon tank.
Why Anyone Runs a Mower on Propane
Propane burns cleaner than petrol, which matters where a grounds contract specifies emissions or where machines work near building intakes, hospital grounds and schools. It also cannot be siphoned, does not go stale in storage, and removes the spill risk that comes with refuelling petrol on a customer’s property. Fleets on municipal and institutional contracts are the usual buyers.
- Cutting width: 52 inches, Velocity Plus cutter deck
- Engine: Kohler EFI, 25 HP, propane fuelled
- Fuel: 33.5 lb LP cylinder
- Frame: double-tube steel
- Cutting height: 1.5 to 6 inches in quarter-inch increments
- Drive: Hydro-Gear 16 cc pumps, Parker 18 ci motors
Cylinder Handling Is the Real Change
Running propane replaces a fuel stop with a cylinder exchange, which is faster but needs organising. A crew needs spare cylinders in rotation, somewhere ventilated to store them, and the habit of checking the connection with soapy water after every change rather than trusting feel. None of it is difficult and all of it is different from what a petrol crew does.
Storing Cylinders Properly
Propane cylinders belong upright, outdoors or in a ventilated store, away from drains and basements where escaping gas would collect because it is heavier than air. A locked cage against an outside wall is the usual arrangement and it satisfies most insurers. Cylinders rolling in the back of a van between sites is the arrangement that does not.
Transporting a Spare
A cylinder travelling to site should be secured upright with the valve closed and a plug fitted, and the vehicle should be ventilated. It is a small discipline that becomes automatic quickly, and it is the part of running propane that a petrol crew has no existing habit for.
The Propane Turf Tigers
The STTII-61V-25CH-LP-EFI is the same fuel system on a 61 inch deck. If the emissions case does not apply to your work, the petrol STTII-52V-26CH-EFI is the equivalent machine at this width for considerably less.
