Description
Scag Tiger Cat II 61 Inch Zero-Turn with 36 HP Vanguard BIG BLOCK
This is the top of the Tiger Cat II range: the widest deck, the largest engine, and a carbureted Vanguard BIG BLOCK at 36 horsepower. Nothing else in the family carries more.
The Ceiling of the Compact Range
Buyers who find themselves choosing this machine should also look one range up before committing, because the Cheetah II starts within a few hundred dollars of it. What this machine keeps that the Cheetah does not is the 80 inch body and the 1 inch minimum cut. What it gives up is the two-speed transaxle, the 13 gallon tank and the suspended operator platform. Dense sites and close finishes keep you here; open acreage does not.
- Cutting width: 61 inches, Velocity Plus cutter deck
- Engine: Vanguard BIG BLOCK, 36 HP, carbureted
- Overall length: 80 inches
- Cutting height: 1 to 5 inches in quarter-inch increments
- Fuel capacity: 9.5 gallons
- Blade engagement: Ogura GT3.5 clutch, 250 ft lb
Knowing When to Move Up a Range
The signal that a fleet has outgrown the Tiger Cat is not a machine struggling but a crew consistently finishing later than planned on the same properties. That usually means ground speed rather than cutting capability is the limit, and ground speed is the one thing more engine cannot buy on a single-speed transaxle. At that point the answer is a different machine rather than a bigger engine.
Hour Meters and Resale
A commercial mower is valued on hours, and the meter is the only part of the machine a buyer cannot argue with. Keeping servicing recorded against hours rather than dates, and keeping the record with the machine, adds more to what a Tiger Cat fetches at three years old than any amount of cleaning does.
The Alternatives Either Side
The STCII-61V-34CV-EFI is the injected Kohler just below at 34 horsepower. The STCII-52V-36BV puts this same engine behind a narrower deck for tighter sites. Above the range entirely, the SCZII-61V-36BV is the entry Cheetah II at a comparable price.
