Scag SLS 52″ Briggs & Stratton 24HP

Description

Scag SLS 52 Inch Residential Zero-Turn with 24 HP Briggs PXi

A 52 inch SLS with a 24 horsepower Briggs PXi, offering more engine than the 22 horsepower machine at the same deck width.

Two Engines on One Deck Width

The SLS is offered at 52 inches in two outputs, and the extra two horsepower here is worth having on ground that grows fast or gets cut fortnightly rather than weekly. On a kept lawn on a regular schedule the difference will rarely be noticed, which makes this a choice about growing conditions rather than about lawn size.

• Cutting width: 52 inches
• Engine: Briggs PXi Series, 24 HP
• Rated for residential use
• Drive: dual hydrostatic transaxles
• Type: zero-turn riding mower

Growing Season Length Changes What You Need

A lawn in a long warm season puts on considerably more growth between cuts than the same lawn further north, and engine sizing on a residential mower should account for that rather than for the acreage alone. Owners who find their machine bogging in June on a schedule that worked in April are usually under-engined rather than doing anything wrong.

Raise the Deck Through the Hottest Weeks

Most domestic lawns are cut too short, and the damage shows in July rather than in May. Going up a notch through the hottest part of summer leaves more leaf to shade the soil and keeps the grass green when a closely cut lawn browns off.

Drop It Again in Autumn

The shorter finish belongs at the end of the season rather than the middle.

Fuel Left Standing Is the Usual Spring Problem

Fuel with ethanol in it draws moisture and separates over a winter, and the residue blocks passages that are tedious to clear. Running the tank dry before storage or adding a stabiliser in autumn is what makes a machine start in April the way it stopped in October.

The 52 Inch SLS Machines

The SLS-52H-22PX is the lower-output option at this width. The SLS-42H-20PX and SLS-61H-24PX cover the narrower and wider decks in the range.
