Skid Mount Against Tow Behind

A skid-mounted unit sits in the vehicle that carries the debris, which means one vehicle, one set of manoeuvring and nothing to reverse on a narrow street. A tow-behind is easier to move between vehicles and can be parked while the truck leaves. For a crew with one dedicated leaf truck, the skid mount is almost always the right answer.

Plan the Installation Before You Buy

A skid loader has to be bolted down, fed with fuel, and positioned so the hose reaches the ground and the discharge reaches the body. None of that is difficult and all of it is easier decided before the machine arrives. Measuring the intended bed, including the height available under any rack, avoids the version of this job that happens with the unit already on the driveway.

Fit a Debris Screen Over the Body

A loader discharging into an open truck body throws material out again on the far side unless something contains it. A mesh top or a tarp frame keeps the load in and roughly doubles what a body will hold before it needs emptying, which on a long haul to the tip is the difference between two trips and four.

Watch the Load Height

Leaves settle very little, so a body packed to the rails is genuinely full. Overfilling simply loses material on the road.
