Description

Scag Patriot 61 Inch Zero-Turn with 23 HP Kawasaki FX

This is the most expensive machine in the Patriot range, pairing the 61 inch Hero cutter deck with a 23 horsepower Kawasaki FX. Moving up from 52 inches changes more than the deck.

A Bigger Drive System, Not Just a Bigger Deck

The 61 inch Patriots run a Hydro-Gear ZT-3400 transaxle with a 12 cc internal pump, where the 52 inch machines use a ZT-3100 with a 10 cc pump. Ground speed rises from 8.5 to 10 mph as a result. That is a genuine step in drive capability rather than a wider deck bolted to the same machine, and it is most of what the price difference buys.

  • Cutting width: 61 inches, Hero cutter deck
  • Engine: Kawasaki FX Series, 23 HP
  • Transaxle: Hydro-Gear ZT-3400, 12 cc internal pump
  • Forward speed: up to 10 mph
  • Fuel capacity: 6.5 gallons
  • Drive tires: 24 x 12-12

Watch the Wheel Motors for Weeping

The first sign of a transaxle seal letting go is a damp film of oil picking up dust around the hub, long before anything feels wrong to drive. Wiping the area clean and looking again a week later tells you whether it is old residue or an active leak. Caught at that stage it is a seal; ignored, it becomes a transaxle.

Low Branches and a Folding Roll Bar

The roll bar folds so a machine can pass under trees and into low buildings, and on a wide-deck mower working established grounds it gets folded often. Every fold and raise cycles the pivot bolts, which work loose over a season on a machine used that way. Checking them when the fasteners are checked, rather than assuming, keeps the bar doing what it exists for.

Where the Premium Goes at 61 Inches

The SPZ-61H-27CX and SPZ-61H-25CV both cost less while offering more power, so this is the Kawasaki badge rather than the strongest specification. The SPZ-61H-25ZT is the least expensive way into a 61 inch Patriot by a clear margin.
