Description
Scag Patriot 52 Inch Zero-Turn with 27 HP Briggs CXi
This is the most powerful 52 inch Patriot, carrying a 27 horsepower Briggs CXi Series V-twin at the same price as the 23 horsepower Kohler. On output per dollar it is the strongest configuration at this width.
Power the Deck Cannot Fully Use
Worth being honest: a 52 inch Hero deck does not need 27 horsepower on maintained turf, and an operator cutting kept lawns weekly will never find the ceiling. Where it earns its place is the exception rather than the routine, the property that was left three weeks, the damp autumn cut, the paddock edge. Reserve is insurance rather than performance on a machine in this class.
- Cutting width: 52 inches, Hero cutter deck
- Engine: Briggs CXi Series, 27 HP, V-twin
- Transaxle: Hydro-Gear ZT-3100
- Fuel capacity: 6.5 gallons
- Footplate: pierced extruded steel, rubber iso-mounted
- Forward speed: up to 8.5 mph
A Small Tank Behind a Large Engine
Six and a half gallons is the smallest tank on any commercial Scag rider, and a 27 horsepower engine empties it faster than a 23 does. Crews moving up to this configuration from a smaller-engined Patriot should expect to refuel more often rather than assuming range scales with capability. Planning a fill into the middle of the day is easier than discovering the need at the far end of a route.
Carrying Fuel Safely on a Trailer
A crew that has to refuel mid-route will carry a can, and a can rolling loose on a trailer bed is a genuine hazard rather than a theoretical one. Strapping it upright in a corner, out of the sun and away from the exhaust of whatever is beside it, takes a moment and removes the most avoidable risk on any landscape trailer.
Output Against Price at 52 Inches
The SPZ-52H-23CV matches this price with 23 horsepower from a Kohler, which makes this the better value unless you specifically want that engine. The SPZ-52H-25ZT is cheaper, and the SPZ-52H-22FX and SPZ-52H-24FT cover the Kawasaki options.
