What a Grader Blade Is Actually For

The work a blade does well is moving loose material already on the ground: spreading a delivered load of gravel evenly across a drive, levelling spoil after a dig, pulling back the ridge a vehicle has pushed up, or grading a path back to a consistent camber. What it does not do is cut into undisturbed ground, which needs a different tool entirely.

Working in Layers Rather Than in One Pass

The commonest mistake with any blade is trying to move everything at once, which loads the carrier, digs a hollow where the pass started and leaves a ridge where it ended. Taking shallow repeated passes and changing direction between them produces a flatter result faster, and it is easier on the machine doing the work.
