Description
CID Attachments Backhoe Buckets For Skid Steers
The CID Attachments Backhoe Buckets For Skid Steers are purpose-built excavation buckets designed for use on skid steer backhoe attachment systems, allowing the skid steer to perform digging, trenching, and excavation work from the rear of the machine. Available in six widths including 8″, 12″, 16″, 20″, and 24″ digging widths plus a trench-cleanup model (XBHB8, XBHB12, XBHB16, XBHB20, XBHB24, XBHT), these buckets cover the most common trench and foundation widths used in utility, landscape, and light construction applications. CID fabricates the backhoe buckets from heavy-gauge steel with reinforced side cutters and a replaceable bolt-on cutting edge that extends the working life of the bucket in abrasive soil conditions.
Width Selection for Trenching Applications
Matching the bucket width to the intended trench application directly affects both productivity and the quality of the finished trench. The 8″ and 12″ models are suited to utility trenches for water, gas, electric, and communications conduit installation where a narrow, clean trench minimizes excavation volume and backfill requirements. The 16″ and 20″ models are used for drainage pipe, sewer laterals, and shallow foundation work. The 24″ model handles footings, drain fields, and applications where wider excavation is specified. The trench cleanup bucket (XBHT) is a specialty tool for squaring trench bottoms and removing loose material from the trench base ahead of pipe laying.
Performance in Different Soil Types
In sandy and loamy soils, backhoe buckets operate efficiently at standard digging speeds with clean trench wall formation. In clay and heavy soils, reducing the bucket load per dig cycle and using the side cutters to score the trench wall before the main crowd action produces cleaner, more structurally sound trench walls. In rocky soil, the hardened cutting edge and side cutters handle the impact loads from rock contact better than a standard general-purpose bucket, but penetration depth and cycle speed will be reduced compared to soil digging.
Cutting Edge Maintenance
The bolt-on cutting edge is a consumable wear component. Inspect cutting edge thickness regularly in abrasive conditions and replace before wear progresses to the bucket floor. Operating with a worn-through cutting edge damages the floor plate and typically requires welded repair rather than simple edge replacement, making timely replacement the more economical approach.
