Description

Brown Products R-460 WireMaster Mole Wire Installer

The Brown Products R-460 WireMaster Mole is a dedicated walk-behind machine designed to install invisible dog fence wire in a single, efficient pass. The R-460 digs a trench from 2 to 4 inches deep, feeds the wire down into the bottom of the trench, and covers the trench with the excavated soil, all in one continuous operation. At 95 pounds, it is lightweight enough for a single operator to load, unload, and maneuver throughout a residential or commercial property without assistance.

Single-Pass Wire Installation

The efficiency of the R-460 comes from its integrated three-step process. A tungsten carbide rotor cuts the trench to the selected depth, wire feeds from a reel mounted on the machine directly into the trench opening, and the rubber hood system channels displaced soil back over the wire as the machine advances. The result is a fully installed, buried wire line with minimal surface disturbance in a single pass, eliminating the separate steps required when using conventional trenchers and hand-tucking methods.

Ease of Maintenance

The R-460 is designed for minimal field maintenance requirements. Rotor changes are performed with the removal of a single nut, allowing operators to switch between the 2-inch, 3-inch, and 4-inch depth configurations without tools beyond a standard wrench. The rubber hood is easy to remove for cleaning and inspection after use in heavy soil conditions. Brown Products manufactures the R-460 at its Alabama facility, and replacement rotors, belts, and wear components are available through the authorized dealer network.

Build and Transport

At 95 pounds, the R-460 can be lifted by one person and transported in a standard truck bed or cargo van. Its 22-inch overall width fits through standard residential gates and allows operation in narrow side yards and constrained property perimeters where larger machines cannot maneuver. The machine ships pre-assembled from the factory and is ready to operate on delivery.

Comparison to Manual Wire Installation Methods

The R-460 WireMaster Mole replaces a three-step manual process with a single-pass machine operation. Without the R-460, invisible fence installation typically involves cutting a shallow groove with a flat spade or edger, hand-laying the wire into the groove, and tamping or filling the groove with soil or a patching compound. This process is labor intensive, inconsistent in depth, and leaves a visible surface trace on the lawn for days or weeks after installation. The R-460 completes all three steps simultaneously at up to 25 feet per minute, producing a consistent 2 to 4 inch burial depth, a minimal surface trace, and a faster overall installation time that allows one technician to complete more jobs per day compared to manual methods.
