Two Engines, One Price

Where two configurations cost the same and differ only in engine, the decision belongs to whoever services the machine rather than to whoever drives it. Vanguard and Kawasaki are both well supported, but a fleet running one of them already halves its filter and plug inventory by staying consistent. The two horsepower difference will not be felt on a 52 inch deck.

Twelve Gallons Is a Full Day

The XL carries a considerably larger tank than the V-Ride II’s eight gallons, which on a machine of similar consumption means most crews can work a full day without stopping. That is worth more than it sounds on a route with awkward refuelling, and it is another of the things the XL frame buys that the deck width does not reveal.

Fuel Gauges Lie on a Slope

A tank read on sloping ground shows whatever the fuel has settled to, which on a twelve gallon tank can be a long way from the truth in either direction. Reading it on level ground, or simply filling at a fixed point in the day, avoids both the false alarm and the unexpected stop.

Refuel Before the Last Property

Running low at the far end of a route costs a return trip rather than a fuel stop. Crews that fill at the yard every morning regardless of the gauge rarely have the problem at all.
